1949 Alvis TA14 Special

Known as the Ben Serjeant Special in Alvis circles; believed to have been built in the 1990s

First registered MLG 447 on the 23rd November 1949, this Alvis originally carried Mulliner saloon coachwork and, according to A.O.C chatter, first left the factory on the 18th November that year.

Officially, the current V5 only records five previous keepers, but the club have names of at least eight members who have owned the car, including our vendor.

Known in Alvis circles as the Serjeant Special, we understand it has been written about in the Alvis Bulletin a few times, but unfortunately at the time of writing, the relevant copy has not been found.

Mr Serjeant had written that he had longed to own an Alvis all his life, but the war and a growing family rather got in the way. We think he finally got his hands on chassis 23288 in the late 1970s as a non running project, which he rebuilt in the 1990s into what can be seen today. It appears to then have remained in his family until being sold at auction in 2017.

Now registered in XVV 759 (non transferable), it has been with our A.O.C member for the last couple of years. We are told it has a relatively new exhaust fitted which is evident on the underside and while on site with us it has run around nicely.

New owners should note that the seats may need some adjusting. They are not original to the car, but are from a TA14 and will need some tweaking to allow access the boot. The boot lid itself is screwed down, so quick access is currently behind the seating.

Only being offered for sale due to our vendor (a lifelong Alvis enthusiast) needing a little space in his workshop. This seems an affordable way into Alvis ownership with an attractive special that has plenty of potential for further development.
