FINDING WHAT YOU WANT
We offer by online auction between 1,000s of lots every month, many from blue chip sellers such as Government Departments, Finance Companies, Franchised Main Agents and Companies.
To find what you want, we post catalogues on our website, in the week following each auction.
The lists are promoted from the Brightwells Home Page and contain all the information you require to buy this way.
We promote the items with details of:
- Type, Age and Hours/Mileage - our online database sources the information you need to help determine what the vehicle is, how old it is and what the hours or mileage shows (we do not guarantee clock readings, of course)
- Paperwork - service history, MoT dates, V5C info and other documents
- Photographs - we take pictures of the vehicles from all angles, to include images of extra equipment and any significant damage you need to know about
- Videos - we promote videos showing the vehicles running
- VAT & Buyer Fees - each lot shows what rate of Buyers Premium is added to the hammer price on your invoice, plus any VAT attributable to the hammer price and the buyer fees.
VIEWING & BUYER INSPECTIONS
Prospective buyers are welcome to view what we have on site, by booking an appointment in advance and in the knowledge that our paramount objective is to conduct safe viewing in light of the current circumstances.
Viewing is allowed on the days of the week of the sale, between 9am - 4pm.
Terms apply for viewing, which we would be delighted to discuss with you, when you book by calling us on 01981 250642.
We can also walk around a vehicle for prospective buyers who choose to ring in and ask for our phone inspection service. Again, please register your interest by calling us on 01981 250642.
HOW TO BID AND BUY
All Brightwells vehicle auctions run as timed online auctions — the clock counts down and you place your bids before it reaches zero. There are no last-second extensions: when the time is up, the lot is sold. It's a clean, transparent format that rewards prepared bidders.
-
Registering to Bid
You will need to create a bidding account on our site. Once you have an account, you can register for an auction, by going to a catalogue listing and clicking on the golden REGISTER button that shows towards the top right of the catalogue page, once logged in.

A deposit is usually required when registering for an auction. The amount will be displayed during the registration process. If you do not make a purchase, your deposit will be refunded. If you are successful, the deposit will be credited towards your invoice.
The deposit will allow you to have a spending limit, the value of which depends on how much you deposit you place. Read the options on the deposit screen, when registering to bid. You can also increase your spending limit, by placing further deposits during the auction. This can be done by clicking on the link "+ Increase Limit" on the top right of the main catalogue listing page.

- Placing bids:
Click on any lot to open its bidding page. You'll see the current bid, the next minimum increment, and a box to enter your maximum bid. The system works as a proxy: if your maximum meets or exceeds the reserve, your bid will be taken up to the reserve automatically. Once the reserve is passed, the increment system takes over — you'll always be shown the minimum amount you need to bid next.
If another bidder has already entered the same maximum as you, you'll be prompted to increase yours. And because proxy bidding works in your favour, you may end up paying less than your stated maximum if no one else bids as high.
Important: bids are contractually binding and cannot be withdrawn at any time. The highest bidder when the clock reaches zero is the purchaser. The auctioneers reserve the right to decline any bid and, in the event of a dispute, may re-offer the lot at their discretion.
For more detail on how timed auctions work, see our Guide to Timed Auctions.
PAYING
Once the auction is complete, provisional sales have been negotiated and our systems have been updated, all winning buyers will then be sent by email their invoices.
Our terms are that all items must be paid for within 48 hours of invoicing, after which collection/delivery will be arranged to suit your requirements.
We would just remind bidders that you cannot retract a bid, so your deposit will be lost if you fail to pay for a lot.
We only accept payment by bank transfer, terms will be sent with the email invoice. So, please don't send a cheque and don't bring cash. Payment must be settled before you collect your goods, of course.
COLLECTION & DELIVERY
Our auction centre is based at Stoney Street, Madley, Herefordshire HR2 9NH. We own this site, so you can collect your vehicle anytime during our normal daylight working hours (9am – 4pm, Monday – Friday), except for Bank Holidays and in between Christmas and New Year.
Our storage compound are fully alarmed and insured, with 24-hour security monitoring. Our forty-acre site has strongly secured access.
No matter where you live or what you want to have transported, we know someone who can do it. Transportation is all about timing, safety, storage and price, and we have been involved with companies who do the job for over thirty years, through various parts of our business. We can arrange delivery for international sellers from most parts of the globe, let alone the UK.
Of course, the alternative is that you are more than welcome to pick up your purchases from our site yourself. We have loading facilities and operate to the strictest Health & Safety conditions.
One thing we do ask is that purchases are not left with us for days on end after the sale. We expect them to be collected within a week of sale day, after which we will charge storage at £15 plus VAT per day per item.
Please remember that when your purchases are taken away from Brightwells, you must check you have all the paperwork we have given you or your agent/driver.
POST SALE PROCESSES AND BUYER PROTECTION
Once you have bought, paid for and collected your items, we will notify DVLA if you have purchased any road registered vehicles or plant. We have to do this by law. This is usually done by us sending to them the small transfer slip on the V5C.
We check all the vehicles through databases to ensure they are not registered as being stolen, on finance, an accident write off etc.
However, to be extra safe we include in the Buyers Premium the buyer protection of an Indemnity Scheme, which is approved under the cover of NAMA (National Association of Motor Auctions), of which we are a member.
The Indemnity Scheme allows buyers to reclaim their purchase monies should the vehicle they bought turn out to have broken the terms of the scheme. Full details of the scheme can be found on our auction pages and it is another reason why you should confidently buy from Brightwells.
