attractive 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, one of the last examples registered in
September 1989. Powered by the 2,999cc petrol engine paired with an automatic
transmission, this well-presented car has had 10 former keepers and has been in
current ownership since September 2025.
Originally finished in Red,
the car was professionally repainted in June 1990 in the highly desirable
Blue/Black metallic finish, an expensive factory option that perfectly
complements its timeless styling. Further desirable features include leather
seats and rear seating, both costly options when new. The leather upholstery
remains in good condition, while the interior has benefited from refurbishment
including new door cards and carpets.
Having spent many years in dry
storage, the car has since undergone comprehensive recommissioning and a
mechanical overhaul. Additional work includes a high-quality respray, with bare
metal preparation undertaken where appropriate, refurbished alloy wheels
presented in as-new condition, and a recent service including new spark plugs
and ignition leads. The car also benefits from a galvanised bulkhead and is
supplied with a high-quality car cover.
A replacement hood, costing
£670, is included in the sale and is ready to be fitted, as the currently fitted
hood has a slight tear and some discolouration to the rear windows. The
cherished registration number VCZ 107 is included in the sale. The car comes
with MOT validity until March 2027, along with a selection of previous MOT
certificates.
The 3.0-litre engine provides
excellent performance while offering improved economy compared with the
larger-engined alternatives. Demonstrating its roadworthiness, the Mercedes was
driven over 25 miles to the sale venue and was observed starting, driving and
stopping exactly as expected whilst on site for photographs and a short video
presentation.
