In
late 1983, the preceding TVR Tasmin 280i was upgraded with a bigger engine and
renamed the Tasmin 350i. In 1984, the Tasmin name was dropped, and the model
became known simply as the 350i. It was offered in both Coupe and Convertible
guises and boasted 190bhp on tap from the Rover SD1-sourced engine – rising
to 197bhp in 1985. The 350i was a very fast car for the time, with 60 arriving
in around 6.5 seconds and a top speed of almost 140mph. The interior was
luxuriously finished, with a polished wooden dashboard and comfortable seats,
and coupled with the smooth, torquey engine, the new TVR was not tiring to drive
like many predecessors.
The more-popular convertible featured a
well-engineered folding hood, which was easy to both raise and lower. In
addition, it was found that there was minimal buffeting of the fabric roof even
at high speed. 949 350is were built before the end of production in 1989, while
the car’s underpinnings lived on in some of TVR’s models of the following
decade.
Manufactured
in 1984, the 350i on offer here was supplied new in February 1984 to its first
owner. Fitted with the aforementioned Rover SD1 3498cc V8 engine allied to the
five-speed manual transmission, the TVR is finished in Metallic Blue with Blue
velour seats and black leatherette bolsters complemented by a matching blue
soft-top. In the current registered ownership since 2021, A115NUD has had eight
former keepers. There are 14 previous MOTs and a few receipts dating back from
the late 80s to the early 00s showing some of the work that has been carried
out.
The
current owner has informed us that the TVR has recently had a new steering rack,
clutch, battery and the calipers reconditioned.
