Dating from June 2004
this car may not be instantly recognisable as part of the iconic Nissan Skyline
lineage, but is in fact the 11th Generation of Skyline model,
launched in 2001 to replace its (legendary) R34 predecessor and is known as the
V35 series.
The V35 Coupe, as we find here,
(known as the CPV35) is the only Coupe model within the (saloon biased)
11th Generation V35 range and shares more than a passing resemblance
to its super Nissan 350Z sports coupe cousin.
The Coupe was intended to be focused more at the Luxury-sports car
market, where-as the 350Z was to be slightly faster, stiffer, lighter and a
strict 2-seater in line with its Z-model forbears. The Skyline’s move into the ‘luxury
sports’ market was a move many die-hard fans chose to distance themselves from,
referring to the 11th Gen and onwards as the ‘new generation Skylines’ – despite
this, orders were considerable and the car was a success in its new market,
particularly in America where it was sold as an Infiniti G35, Infiniti being
Nissan’s premium brand (like Lexus and Toyota).
Under the bonnet, we find the same 3.5-litre V6 VQ35DE engine as in
the 350Z, albeit in a slightly milder state of tune, developing a not too
dissimilar 276bhp driving the rear wheels via automatic transmission with
tiptronic option. The car sits
well, and rides on a set of attractive OEM 7-spoke 18” Skyline alloy wheels with
gold painted Brembo callipers and poking discreetly out from the rear bumper, we
find a pair of after-market Scorpion exhaust back box and exhaust pipes
giving the car a throaty V6 sound.
Inside, we
find comfortable half leather and Alcantara seats with electric adjustment, easy
access rear seats that offer proper seating for adults, a powerful BOSE sound
system, pop-up TFT screen, automatic digital climate control with A/C, cruise
control, traction control, electric windows, electric mirrors, adjustable
multi-function steering wheel, DVD navigation system (in Japanese) and automatic
Xenon lights.
Within the usefully sized boot we find the spare wheel, tool kit
and Alpine amplifier. The 'SKY' private plate is also included with this
Lot.
The car presents well for its 18 years and
131,449miles/Km – which looks to be a mix of KM and miles as is common
with JDM imports (the MOTs refer to both miles and Km randomly). The car presents well and looks very
sharp – certainly a pretty Coupe and very slick with a great V6 exhaust
note.
The history file includes the V5C
revealing seven former keepers, a selection of invoices for parts including
recent track rod ends and inner rack ends as well as bills for regular
annual service work between 2010-2016 including fitment of Cobra hi-flow Cats,
Toyo Y-pipe, Japspeed lightweight pulley and Scorpion back box in 2015 totalling
£1,648, £750 spent on the OEM Skyline wheels in 2014 plus four old MOT
certificates.
Most recently, the
car has been treated to new track rod ends, inner rack ends, replacement
ignition barrel and new battery. The current MOT is valid until
April 2025 with two minor advisories recorded.
Ready to be enjoyed this is a rare car on
these shores and if you fancied a 350Z but need the added benefit of rear seats
then this could be the option for you: great noise, slick looks and exciting
performance and of course, that legendary name on the back –
Skyline.
