Description
Lovely Mallard blue TR6 from 14-year ownership; high
quality repaint; well-maintained with many new parts fitted; always
garaged; only 32,690 miles indicated; very smart indeed
First registered
in March 1973, this lovely Mallard blue/green TR6 has had just five owners
from new, our vendor acquiring the car in 2010 when it was showing 19,300 miles
on the clock. He has maintained the car regardless of expense, as detailed in
many invoices on file, and has used it sparingly in fine weather only, covering
just over 13,000 miles in his 14-year ownership, keeping it garaged when not in
use.
Although it was already in good condition
when he bought it, the paint on the front end was slightly faded so he had it
fully resprayed in the original Mallard with white pin stripes down the flanks.
This was a very thorough job (bumpers; lights; doors; boot lid; windscreen etc.
all removed), as shown in photos on file. The bodywork was found to be
completely rust-free and the paint still looks excellent today.
A new front grille was fitted at the same time
along with new weather strips all round and the chassis was cleaned and
rust-proofed. The wheels were also refurbished and fitted with a set of
stainless steel rim inserts which really set the car off. A stainless steel
exhaust system was also fitted.
When acquired,
the car was running on its original fuel injection system and although this
worked fine at speed, it was lumpy at low revs so rather than having it
refurbished, our vendor fitted a pair of SU HS6 carbs which were fully rebuilt
by Burlen. The inlet manifold was also professionally cleaned and refurbished
and an ITG panel filter fitted. The distributor was rebuilt by Distributor
Doctor to suit the carbs and a new fuel pump and brake master cylinder were also
fitted. The original fuel injection unit is included in the sale if the new
owner wishes to return it to standard, along with sundry other spares.
Other expenditure of note includes a new Borg
& Beck clutch kit in 2012; new front brake discs and pads and a new
overdrive unit in 2015; auxiliary power socket fitted under the glove box; new
rubber floor mats, boot trim kit, seat foams, wheel cylinders, spark
plugs and clutch slave cylinder in 2024. A new carpet set had been
fitted shortly before the vendor bought the car and the whole interior looks
very tidy indeed.
Documentation includes a good
file of invoices extending back some 25 years, the original owner’s handbook,
two workshop manuals and an agreed insurance valuation of £21,750 in 2016. There
are also no fewer than 28 old MOTs back to 1986 when the car was showing 12,425
miles. In fact the car appears so original and well-preserved that the vendor
suspects that the 32,690 miles currently displayed might even be correct – who
knows?
Although it no longer needs one, it has an MOT until March 2025 with
no advisories recorded and it has barely had any advisories over the last 20+
years – always the sign of a good car! Driven to the sale from Hereford, we are
told that it goes as well as it looks, and it has certainly been starting
promptly and running sweetly as we have moved it around on site, with good 50psi
oil pressure.
As you can see in the photos, this
TR6 looks very smart indeed, both above and below, and you would be hard pressed
to find a better example at the modest guide price suggested.
