As the Heritage
Certificate confirms, this smart Jaguar MkII 2.4 Manual Overdrive was built in
November 1963 finished in Grey Mist with a red leather interior. Supplied new
via Henlys of London, the first owner was a Mr WD Pearce of Falmouth who kept it
until 1974 when it was sold to a Mr Gilliam of Bristol. It has had four further
owners since, all detailed in old logbooks on file.
Repainted Jaguar Carmen Red way back in the 1970s, it comes
with a good file of invoices for work carried out over the years. The invoices
imply that it had a fairly major overhaul in 1992/93 including a rebuilt
gearbox; clutch kit; exhaust system; suspension overhaul; alternator; 4 new
brake discs and calipers rebuilt; radiator recored; new fuel tank; paintwork;
door seals etc.
In 2008 all the furflex was
renewed and it got a new set of carpets, including the boot. It also had uprated
Coopercraft brakes fitted at around the same time. The most recent invoice is
from November 2023 when it had a fairly major service and tune up, along with a
new diff pinion seal and new steering joints, the work being carried out by
Jaguar specialists Lagjander of Exeter.
There
are 20 old MOTs showing that it has been in light regular use since the early
1990s, covering some 17,000 miles since 2015. The speedo was changed at c.94k
miles in 2014 so the true mileage is unknown but seems likely to be around 111k
miles. The vendor states that it is a ‘matching numbers’ example but we have not
checked this for ourselves.
Fitted with a Webasto sunroof, it also has
rear picnic tables, a full tool kit, an original owner's handbook and a
lubrication chart. Classed as a Historic Vehicle on the V5C, it is of
course now MOT-exempt and free to tax. The icing on the cake is
the original Cornwall-issue number plate, 157 URL, which is transferable
and doubtless has a value of its own.
As you can
see in the photos, this Jaguar looks most attractive both inside and out, and
has been starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site.
