Believed to be the sole Downton-tuned four-cylinder MGB Roadster
produced; reconditioned engine; originally had rectangular headlights; for
restoration with some original panels; well-known car and a fantastic
opportunity
Supplied new by University Motors and believed to be the
sole 'Downton Special' Roadster produced with a Downton-tuned
four-cylinder engine and special rectangular
headlights.
There were c.500 Downton-tuned
six-cylinder MGC variants built, followed by one four-cylinder MGB and one MGB
GT.
Well known car with an interesting history.
For complete restoration, including many original panels and some
replacement plus a selection of boxed parts.
Solid looking,
stripped rolling shell. Original wings
included, with one shot-blasted to show the conversion back to traditional round
lights from original rectangle (similar to those found on Ford GT40 replicas,
available online)
Rebuilt four-cylinder engine
along with gearbox (both unfitted).
History file includes the
Heritage Certificate confirming it to be a UK RHD Home Market car finished in
Glacier White supplied new in May 1971.
V5C showing just 3 former
keepers to our vendor who bought the car as a restoration project, had the
engine rebuilt but hasn’t progressed any further. Old style V5, Special Tuning for the MGB
handbook, MGB handbook, historic correspondence and a ream of historic bills
dating back to the '70s including Downton Conversions
bits.
