Ex-Ministry of Agriculture; professionally converted to a Tourer in
2014; unleaded head; electronic ignition; later front seats; driven 30 miles to
the sale; very smart and very usable
This lovely Morris Minor
started out in life as a two-door saloon and was first registered to The
Northern Scotland College of Agriculture in Aberdeen in October 1968. The
college formed part of the Ministry of Agriculture and, in common with all
vehicles owned by the government, no engine number is recorded on the V5C.
Copies of old registration documents on file show that the College
kept it until 1977 and it remained in Scotland until 2013 when it was acquired
by a gentleman in Herefordshire.
In 2014 he sent the car to The
Moggy Factory in Telford where it was professionally converted to a Tourer using
original Cowley factory parts with all the correct body/chassis strengthening.
They also reconditioned the cylinder head and made it suitable for unleaded
petrol, fitted electronic ignition, overhauled the brakes, carried out some
localized bodywork repairs and got it through an MOT, the cost for this lot
coming to some £4,000 (invoices on file).
Other invoices show regular
upkeep over the next few years including a new electric fuel pump; new starter
motor; canister oil filter conversion; oil pressure gauge; new coolant hoses;
Dinitrol rust-proofing; routine service items etc. It has also been fitted with
more modern and comfortable front seats.
18 old MOTs imply that the car
has only covered around 10,000 miles since 1982, the odometer currently showing
63,130 miles which is believed to be correct. Although it no longer needs one,
it has an MOT until 22nd October 2024 with just a couple of minor
advisories and was driven some 30 miles to the sale.
Documentation
includes an original owner’s handbook, Haynes workshop manual, Cassell book on
the Morris Minor 1000, parts catalogue, technical manual on CD, literature about
ex-Government Minors etc.
As you can see in the photos,
this Moggy looks very smart indeed and has been starting promptly and running
sweetly as we have moved it around on site with good 50psi oil
pressure.
