Description
Fresh from a total nut-and-bolt rebuild by a retired Mini specialist;
1275cc engine; various Cooper S upgrades; lovely condition
throughout
First registered
in March 1963, this genuine Austin Mini Cooper Mk1 (chassis prefix CA2S7) was
acquired by our vendor back in 2009 as a restoration project. Proprietor of a
specialist Mini garage in the Midlands, he only found time to get on with the
job when he retired a couple of years ago.
Although there are no invoices to show exactly what was done, there
are notes and photos on file which show the process in some detail. The car was
stripped to a bare shell and restored with new panels as required followed by a
repaint in green with a white roof.
The
interior was completely refurbished with new carpets, door cards, rear seat
cover and new high back reclining front seats from Newton Commercial. It also
got a chromed gear lever with an alloy knob, chromed handbrake lever, chromed
sliding window catches and a 120mph speedo.
The
original 997cc engine was replaced with a fully rebuilt 1,275cc twin carb unit,
the machining work being done by Malvern Rebore and final assembly by the vendor
with new pistons, bearings etc. The gearbox was rebuilt by Agency Transmissions
of Worcester.
Brakes, steering and suspension
were all fully rebuilt with various Cooper S upgrades including the front hubs
and servo-assisted disc brakes. The car rides on 10” Rose Petal alloy wheels
shod with a matching set of new Yokohama Advan 032R competition
tyres.
Since the restoration was completed, the
car has only covered a handful of ‘shake-down’ miles and will need a careful
running-in period before the performance is exploited to the
full.
As you can see in the photos, it is now in
sparkling condition throughout and has been starting promptly and running well
as we have moved it around on site, with excellent oil pressure. On offer here
at a very modest guide price (you could not hope to replicate this build for the
same kind of money) it looks like a load of fun and could be an absolute bargain
for someone!
