Description
Appealing 2+2 open Riley special; larger 12/4 engine; pre-selector
gearbox; ideal pre-war mount for all VSCC activities
First
registered in December 1937, this 1.5-litre twin-cam Riley probably started life
as a saloon, judging by the shape of the screen surround.
We don't know
when it lost its original bodywork, or when the open 2+2 coachwork was
completed, but it was a long time ago as it comes with a VSCC buff form dated
2000 by which time it was sporting it's current coachwork.
The interior
is nicely trimmed in leather, and it comes with a roll of the its original
upholstery for good measure. It has a single carb for simplicity and reliability
and we have been driving it around on site since it's arrival at
Brightwells.
There are some old MOTs on file suggesting it has covered
some 8,000 miles since 2007. A note on file shows various works, including an
aluminium foam-filled tank, replacement shock absorbers (the fronts look to have
done little work) and offside kingpin, reset rear springs and new shackles etc
in 2009.
The front hook joints in the torque tube were replaced in 2009
with what looks like regular care and maintenance over the years.
The
vendor acquired the car in 2010 and used it for VSCC rallies and tours,
providing reliable and fun service. It has been dry-stored since 2020 so we
would recommend a check-over and service before serious
use.
