1935 Lancia Augusta
Older restoration: smart
condition requiring some recommissioning after a period off-road; sound
bodywork; lots of bills - £14k spent 2012; UK registered example from
new
The continuation buff logbook for this smart Augusta takes its
history back to 1966 when it lived in Edgware, London. It was first UK
registered on 25th September 1935 and was registered JR 3864, the number it
wears today.
Copious bills on file date from the late 1970s, showing a
comprehensive restoration including major engine work - rebore, reground crank
and new pistons etc. By this time it was in the hands of Mr Gunner who lived in
Hampshire.
The car was retrimmed in around 1980 and arrived in the hands
of the vendor's father in 2007, a prominent Lancia enthusiast and
collector.
He commissioned a major overhaul in 2012, which included fresh
brakes, a suspension overhaul and careful welding of the monocoque body
structure. The wings were removed, much cleaning and painting taking place and
the car resprayed. New tyres were fitted at this time.
The itemised bill
for this came to nearly £14,500, more than the low estimate the car carries
today! We don't know how much use it got once it returned to the collection,
although it will have been used carefully and dry stored since
then.
Now in need of some gentle recommissioning, it presents very nicely
and looks great value. These Augustas offer a tremendous driving experience,
covering ground faster and more easily than virtually any pre-war
rival.
