1985 Land Rover 110 County Station Wagon

With new 300 TDI engine fitted in 2010 and three previous owners

Rugged workhorse and one of the most honest vehicles ever made, the Land Rover Defender has become the icon it is for good reason.

This 37 year old example is not so far off becoming tax and MOT exempt (just another 3 years or so to go) and still has plenty of life left in it.

It would probably have been fitted with a normally aspirated 2.5-litre diesel when new, an engine that was so unstressed it was virtually impossible to wear out.

This vehicle however has received a new 300TDi unit, a lusty turbocharged version used by Land Rover from 1990 onwards which is arguably the best diesel they ever fitted - economical, torquey and ever-lasting. This Landy has covered around 40,000 miles on this new unit which we are told was installed in 2010.

The new engine was fitted by Roean, Telford and it comes with some service history through Roean. Its most recent MOT expired in Dec 2020 showing two advisories for a rusty spring and extensive underbody repairs - so it will need to be presented once more before hitting the road. There are 14 old MOTs in the file and a few older invoices.

We have counted 11 seats if you are close friends and it carries a useful roof rack up top accessible by ladder from the rear. There are work lights, tow eyes, light guards, side steps and a tow bar.

The chassis and bulkhead look reasonably sound, although there is plenty of corrosion over the vehicle witnessed in the photos, still, its guide price is very modest and it has all the makings of a terrific workhorse for not a huge outlay.
