1992 Vauxhall Nova 1.4i Merit

Reserve
Super one owner example showing just 40,335
miles; rare car nowadays with 1.4 fuel injection and 5-speed 'box - find
another?
Supplied new by Williams of Market
Drayton in April 1992 this exceedingly rare to find Vauxhall Nova comes to us in
charming ‘Merit’ spec and is the rather uncommon (even when new, let alone
today) four door saloon version, finished in blue and still retaining its
original plastic hubcaps.
Under the bonnet, we
find a fuel injected 1.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engine driving the front
wheels through five-speed manual transmission. As a later car, this example features
the face-lifted interior and body style and includes grey cloth trim, manual
windows, no central locking, original radio/cassette, heated rear screen,
cigarette lighter and height adjustable head lamps.
Hailing from another age where owner’s carried spares in the boot,
just in case, we find here a spare drive belt and wipers plus seat covers and a
few others odds and sods.
This charming example
has had just one owner from new, now very elderly who has cherished the car even
fitting door edge protectors on each door edge to prevent chips from walls. The car shows just 40,335 miles and has
been kept garaged throughout seeing limited local use in its whole life.
Starting promptly and feeling very eager and tight as we moved it
around, its appeal is in its simplicity with excellent visibility not hampered
by those stupid thick A, B and C pillars seen today.
The history file includes the V5C confirming sole ownership, the
original and complete owner’s pack including service book with PDI by Williams
of Market Drayton plus 12 service stamps, the last in April 2018 at 37,296 miles
by Talbot Garage Ltd or Market Drayton.
There is a further stamp for the car’s warranty at the back and one
hand-written service entry in April 2010.
The car’s current MOT is valid until
October 2022 recording two advisories for corrosion to the front valance and
corrosion to the inner rear quarter panels.
It
is so unusual to find a Vauxhall Merit saloon with such low
mileage and sole ownership that Classics Weekly (Kelsey Media) came to do a
feature on the car, one of their excellent ‘Classic Road Tests’, a link to which
will be added to the Lot detail shortly.
