1969 Land Rover Series IIa petrol
In one
family ownership from new; light usage; incredibly original; just how they
should be
Of all the Series Land Rovers, the Series II or IIa are,
for most, the easiest to own. With significantly better steering and a bit more
space inside than earlier models, they have a more traditional look than a
Series III which makes them that bit nicer.
Especially so in this case, a
1969 Series IIa that has been in the same family ownership from new. An invoice
on file from the supplying dealer Lee Motors of Bournmouth shows that it cost
£780. Extras fitted at the time were flasher equipment, heater and demister,
rubber mats, fly screens, gearbox cover, interior mirror, pedal rubbers, screen
washer kit, reversing lamp, sun visor and safety belts.
Just eight days
after it was delivered, it revisted Lee Motors for its free 1,000 mile service.
It immediately set off for Switzerland, paperwork on file showing it arrived
just two days later on 13th April 1969. Two service bills from L Bernhardt AG of
Basel show that it was still there in December along with its 1969 Swiss
licence.
There are multiple old MOTs on file, showing that in 1992 it was
registering 12,000 miles. We do not know if this was its second showing,
although paperwork which includes multiple bills confirms that this figure has
steadily risen to the 20,000 miles now indicated.

Engineers in Hitchin have cared for it ever since its return from Switzerland.
Multiple bills show regular care and some welding to the chassis over the
years.
The car itself has recently had a new tilt and has been driving
nicely around onsite. It has been tucked away for some time so would no doubt
benefit from a good service, but it is essentially very sound, very original and
rather lovely.
If proper Land Rovers are your thing, we think you will
like this one very much.
