Description
1998 Nissan Skyline GTS-T (R33)
Appealing 2.5
single turbo, rear-wheel drive manual transmission example recently treated to a
re-spray; relatively unmodified example of this appreciating JDM coupe
Dating from 1998 this late model R33 generation
of Nissan Skyline comes to us in GTS-25T Spec II guise (known as the GTS-T) and
features an evolution of the legendary six-cylinder RB engine, here in RB25DET
form meaning 2.5 litres and a single turbo driving the rear wheels via five
speed manual transmission.
The car was imported
and registered in the UK in July 2008, its first UK MOT showed 68,328Km, since
when it has had four former keepers to the current and its recorded 85,327Km
(speedo facia adapted to miles, but the cars usually still record in KM)
who has recently opted to cosmetically refresh the car with a re-spray in the
original shade of grey. The car
presents well, although there are a few localised areas that could be improved
upon at a later date (see images).
These R33
Skylines are commonly modified, and although this car, like many is not
standard, the mods seem limited and look to include after market alloy wheels, a
big-bore exhaust (which sounds lovely), HKS turbo-timer, Greddy digital boost
control, additional Apexi boost gauge, additional Yashio Factory digital water
temp gauge and aftermarket air filter (which would benefit from replacement we
notice, its crumbled).
The inter-cooler looks
to be stock and in the original location, the Hi-Cas (rear wheel steering) is
still in place (its commonly removed to enable drifting) although the light is
illuminated suggesting it may have been unplugged and the brakes/suspension also
appear to be standard as do the hoses under the bonnet. The turret tops, a
common corrosion issue on the R33 look to be in good order which is good news
for any buyer.
We have not driven the car to
ascertain if its been re-mapped as many are, and there is nothing in the limited
history to suggest so, but fitment of a boost gauge and digital boost controller
usually suggest something has been done – so best to assume so. Inside, we also note fitment of an
aftermarket in-car-entertainment centre with digital screen and alloy gear
knob.
The history file for this Lot contains
only the V5C, Owner's manual in English (a rare thing!) and HPI report, although
the current MOT is valid until February 2023 recording five minor advisories
(enter the reg at check-mot.service.gov.uk). Its unclear when the timing belt was
last changed, so this would be worth considering and changing on purchase for
peace of mind.
JDM sports cars, and in particular Skylines have shot up in value
and appeal in recent years, spurred on no doubt by the fame brought upon by the
Fast and Furious franchise which featured them in multiple films. They are well built, fast, capable and
hugely tunable and as such attract demand from around the globe. There are
limited numbers available on the market at any one time and this model R33
Skyline GTS-25T is amongst the most popular.
