1989 Jaguar XJ6 (XJ40)

Low mileage 2.9 straight-six XJ6 showing just
16,414 miles that's been stood for many years and requiring considerable
recommissioning
Off the road since its last MOT
expired in June 2013 this XJ40 dates from April 1989 and comes to us in ice blue
metallic with beige leatherette interior.
The car has had just 4 owners
from new and currently shows just 16,414 miles, just 242 more than when last
MOT’d in 2013. The car, has as you can see suffered as many Jags of this era do
with corrosion, mostly from what we can determine, to the sills which are holed,
with the nearside rear being the worst culprit. There are other localised areas
of surface corrosion as pictured, but it’s the sills that look to require the
most urgent attention.
With just 16,414 miles indicated it would be a
crime to let it rot further, be broken up or scrapped so we felt it deserved a
shot in the sale, albeit slightly off-tempo given its state but worth preserving
none-the less.
Under the bonnet we find the 2.9 litre straight-six AJ6
engine mated to automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. We have not
attempted to start the car given how long its been stood with thought to stale
fuel/deteriorated fuel system etc.
Within the history file, we find a
part V5C for the new keeper to fill in and send off, 13 old MOTs dating back to
1999 when the car had covered 4,496 miles thus confirming the low indicated
mileage and a spattering of invoices for parts etc through
2007-2010.
Given a fighting chance, this could make a nice, low mileage
XJ40 and with values on the rise once recommissioned it could prove a shrewd
investment, especially given the highest bid takes it away.
