1998 Fiat Barchetta

Only 80,500 miles indicated; black leather interior; smart example of this pretty little roadster

Launched in 1995, the Fiat Barchetta was a delightful little roadster with lithe, swooping bodywork designed by Andreas Zapatinas. Partially hand-built, it was packed full of those lovely design details that the Italians do so well, such as the cowled Ferrari-like headlights and recessed tail-lights, flick-out alloy door handles and cute boat-tail rear.

Only available in left-hand drive, it was powered by a 135bhp 1,750cc twin-cam engine with variable valve timing that endowed the car with very sprightly performance – 125mph with a 0-60 time of 8.9 seconds. It remained in production until 2002, but was re-launched in 2004 for one year only. The UK-specification cars were particularly well equipped with a five-speed 'box, power steering, ABS, immobiliser, electric windows, and driver's airbag. There was also a Comfort Pack which added central locking, leather trim, electric aerial and door mirrors, and front fog lights.

First registered in January 1998, this UK model has all the Comfort Pack trimmings including black leather upholstery and appears to be in very tidy condition throughout. It last changed hands through a Brightwells auction back in 2008 when it had reportedly just been serviced and had around 72,000 miles on the clock, a total which has since only risen to 80,580 miles.

Although there is no real history with the car, there is an undated invoice for a new clutch and a new second gear and synchro ring. There are also two old MOTs and a current one which runs to 31st May 2022 with just a couple of minor advisories.

Starting promptly and running nicely as we have moved it around on site, it would make an ideal companion for that European road trip you have been promising yourself once the current restrictions are over!
