1973 Triumph Stag
In carmine red; manual
with overdrive; original V8 engine; restored 1990-1996 with 8,000 miles
since
EAM165L was first registered in June 1973, the vendor
acquiring it for restoration in April 1990 with 116,739 miles on the
clock and having enjoyed eight previous owners.
It was gradually
restored over the next few years and was finally finished and
taken for its MOT in July 1996.
During the six years of spannering, the car had a complete
strip down. The body shell had all rust cut out and new sections welded in,
including rear wheel arches and prefabricated structural elements. The engine
was rebuilt with heads skimmed, block re-bored and all moving parts and seals
replaced. The carburettors were stripped and rebuilt and a new distributor
fitted, together with new clutch and bearing.
The gearbox is original
with new seals being fitted.and new rear wheel drive shafts, together with new
bearings and seals were fitted to front and rear wheels. New prop shaft UJs were
also fitted. The entire braking system was renewed and copper brake pipes
added. All dampers and suspension bushes (hard type – polyurethane) were renewed
including a re-bushed anti roll bar. The steering rack, power steering pump and
control valve box have new seals with new steering swivel joints and all other
associated parts being refurbished. It also got a reconditioned radiator, water
pump and hoses plus new headlights and lenses. The electric cooling fan has
an interior switch.
A new mohair hood was fitted along with
reconditioned frame and a new T-bar cover and sun visors were fitted. The
interior also had new door cards and carpets and the seat belts were
reconditioned. A new windscreen and seal was professionally fitted along with
new wipers and wiper boxes.
This was all set off with a professional
respray in Carmine red (Dupont two-pack). The lower sections below have a stone
chip finish and the cavities waxoyled. All parts and sections underneath
were painted with smooth black Hammerite rust inhibitor. There are stainless
steel sill covers and step plates and a new radio/cassette player, aerial
and stereo speakers.
Its most recent ticket is dated May 2017 when
its mileage read 124,387miles, with just 33 miles added over
the last 4 years (up and down the drive). That is fewer than
8,000 miles since the restoration over a period of 25 years.
Despite its
limited use, the car has been serviced annually by the owner together with any
faulty parts being replaced. The car has the original V8 engine, manual gearbox
with overdrive on 3rd and 4th and is well presented in Carmine red with
black interior.
There are many spares included together with a tool kit,
handbook, factory service manual and factory parts manual. There is a
substantial file invoices/receipts throughout the restoration period and we
confirm it is every bit as good as it looks in the photos....
