2000 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG (W202)
From a
private collection, rare 306bhp 4.3-litre V8 AMG showing 99,150 miles; black
orthopedic leather seats; thunderous soundtrack
Launched
in Spring 1998, the C43 AMG was Mercedes' answer to the BMW M3 – only a lot more
exclusive. Just 300 were made available to the UK. A real wolf in sheep's
clothing, only subtle details - AMG front and rear bumpers, subtle side skirts,
staggered Monoblock alloys, sports exhaust and a lower, more aggressive stance
distinguished it from the crowd.
The
4.3-litre V8 engine was based on Mercedes’ 24-valve 279bhp E430 motor, but with
AMG's attentions it produced significantly more power and torque: 306bhp and
302lb/ft. With a top speed limited to 155mph and capable of 0-60 in 6.4 seconds,
if anything it felt even quicker than the figures suggest with so much mid-range
urge it could get embarrassing...
First
registered in March 2000, this Tourmaline green example features full black
leather interior (many were two-tone), expensive optional electric orthapedic
seats with multi adjustable air pumps, carbon style sports trim, heated seats,
electric windows, boot release, mirrors and electric pop-down rear headrests,
digital climate control and cruise/speed limit function.
The
history file is sparse, bar its old style V5, owners pack and couple of old MOTs
and European Certificate of Conformity. The current MOT runs to March 2021
with no advisories recorded.
The
car still looks good, especially in its unusual Tourmaline green but given its
seen such little use, a good spruce up would do wonders inside and out. It is
discreet, although the AMG Monoblocks and polished twin-exit exhaust give other
motorists only a hint of what lies within – a proper Q-car that’s still quick
enough to embarrass many a flashier sportscar.
