This 1992 TVR Griffith is an
early example of one of Britain's most iconic hand-built sports cars. Finished
in striking red with a beautifully contrasting beige leather interior, this
exciting Griffith is powered by a 4,280cc Rover-derived V8 petrol engine,
believed to be one of the sought-after Big Valve units, driving the rear wheels
through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Combining lightweight construction with
effortless V8 performance, the Griffith has become one of the most desirable
TVRs of the modern classic era.
First registered in October
1992, the car has had seven former keepers and has been in the current ownership
since February 2015. The odometer currently displays 81,900 miles, and the
vehicle benefits from an MOT valid until July 2027.
Accompanying the
car is an impressive history file comprising 22 previous MOT certificates, 14
service stamps, the original handbook and an extensive collection of invoices
documenting maintenance and improvements carried out throughout its life.
Particularly noteworthy is a major programme of restoration and mechanical
refurbishment undertaken around 2014, when the car benefited from a replacement
chassis, a comprehensive gearbox overhaul and a rebuilt BTR differential. This
substantial investment has helped preserve the car and demonstrates the level of
care it has received over the years.
The Griffith was driven more
than 50 miles to the auction site and was observed to start, stop and drive
exactly as expected whilst on site for photography and a short video
presentation. On arrival, the vendor kindly demonstrated the car's performance
on the road, leaving no doubt as to the strength of the V8 engine. The
effortless acceleration, abundant torque and unmistakable soundtrack serve as a
reminder of why the Griffith has earned such a loyal following among
enthusiasts.
