Not all Defenders are created equal, and this is
one of the rarest special editions ever produced. Built to celebrate the
inaugural Land Rover G4 Challenge in 2003, the G4 Limited Edition
models were offered to the public alongside the famous international adventure
event and have since become highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts
alike.
While production numbers remain a subject of debate,
it is generally accepted that around 200 G4 Defenders were built across both 90
and 110 variants. Most are familiar with the Tangiers Orange examples, but this
vehicle is finished in the far rarer Borrego Yellow, which is
believed to be one only around 30 examples produced. Although the G4
decals have faded with age, they remain just visible on the bodywork, adding to
the vehicle's authenticity.
More recently owned and used by
Virgin Balloons, the Defender has clearly led a practical life and displays the
odd dent to the front and rear wings—almost a badge of honour on a working
Defender. Showing just 67,000 miles from new and only three previous keepers, it
has seen remarkably little use for a vehicle of this
type.
Accommodating up to nine occupants, the G4 retains the
distinctive specification that made these models so desirable, including its
unique colour scheme and expedition-inspired appearance. The current MOT remains
valid until April 2027 and was passed with no advisories, offering
reassurance for the next owner.
Whether acquired as a
collectible modern Land Rover, a promotional vehicle, an event support truck or
simply a highly usable classic Defender, this rare G4 Limited Edition represents
an increasingly difficult opportunity to replicate. With rarity, practicality
and iconic status on its side, it is sure to attract considerable
interest.
