Austin-Healey Sprite “Frogeye”; 3 owners from new; full restoration carried out
in early 2000s with pictures to show the work carried
out
A charming and highly original example
of the iconic Frogeye Sprite, first registered in July 1959, presented in
Primrose Yellow with black leatherette interior. This delightful little sports
car has had just three former keepers and has been in the care of its current
owner since February 2012.
Originally finished in
red, the car was professionally refinished in its current Primrose Yellow during
an extensive restoration carried out in August 2002. At the same time, it is
believed the speedometer was reset, as evidenced by the supporting history and
documentation. The recorded mileage currently shows just 1,737 miles, and based
on accompanying old MOT certificates, it is strongly suggested the car has
covered only this minimal mileage since restoration, potentially making it a
remarkably lightly used example over the past two decades.
Powered by a 948cc four-cylinder engine fitted with twin SU
carburettors and paired to a manual transmission, the car retains its lively and
characterful driving experience. It is accompanied by a green continuation log
book, 18 old MOT certificates, numerous invoices detailing work carried out over
the years, and a collection of photographs documenting the car in various stages
of its life, including before, during, and after
restoration.
The car starts, runs, and drives as
expected, having been exercised on site for photographs and a short video,
confirming its usability and mechanical soundness.
This is a well-documented and attractively presented example of the
ever-popular Austin-Healey Sprite Frogeye, offering strong provenance, extensive
history, and the timeless appeal of one of Britain’s most beloved classic
roadsters.
