The ultimate
4x4 Camper; built to the highest specification; fully loaded with everything you
would need to travel the world; LHD
Offered for auction is a rare and characterful 1982 Land Rover 101
Forward Control, originally commissioned as a military ambulance and now
thoughtfully converted into a highly capable camper. This distinctive vehicle
blends rugged heritage with practical touring usability, making it a standout
choice for collectors and adventurers alike.
First registered in the UK in June 1999, the vehicle has had just
three former keepers in total and has remained with its current owner since
January 2010. Over that time, it has been carefully developed into a
well-equipped and versatile camper with a focus on usability and
self-sufficiency.
Under the bonnet, the original
engine has been replaced by a dependable 5.9 Diesel Cummings unit, paired
with a 5-speed manual transmission. It delivers the strong, purposeful driving
characteristics expected of a classic Land Rover, and during recent inspection,
the vehicle was noted to start, drive, and stop as expected. Originally finished
in green and black, it has since been repainted in a vibrant G4 Challange
Orange, giving it an unmistakable and eye-catching presence.
The interior conversion has been completed by the vendor to a notably
high standard, transforming the rear into a functional and comfortable living
space. Currently configured for three berths, the layout could be adapted to
accommodate four with minimal work, offering flexibility for families or touring
groups.
Onboard facilities include a fitted
shower and toilet, along with a hot water system that is heated via the
vehicle’s engine. A 12-volt electric cooler is also installed, providing
practical food storage for longer trips. Power is managed through a secondary
battery system, supported by roof-mounted solar panels, as well as a 240-volt
mains hookup for campsite use.
Additional
features enhance both convenience and capability. These include a GPS Wi-Fi
unit, Bluetooth-enabled radio, CB radio, and multiple front and rear cameras to
aid manoeuvrability. A large pull-out canopy extends the living space outdoors,
making it ideal for extended stays.
Mechanically
and structurally, the vehicle benefits from independent air suspension and a
front-mounted winch, further underlining its off-road credentials. Air
conditioning is fitted in the rear compartment, although it is noted that this
system currently requires attention.
The vehicle
is accompanied by a substantial history file, including a large number of
manuals and a useful video guide demonstrating how to operate its many features.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly individual and well-prepared
classic Land Rover camper, offering a unique blend of heritage, utility, and
adventure-ready specification.
