BMW 2002
“Shark Nose”; significant work carried out over the years; receipts showing some
of the work carried out; 12 old MOTs
An
opportunity to acquire an iconic sporting saloon from BMW’s golden era — the
ever-desirable BMW 2002. Celebrated for its agile handling and engaging
performance, the 2002 played a pivotal role in establishing BMW as a leader in
the compact sports car market, often described as a “sports car in a limousine’s
clothing.”
This particular example presents as a
charming car, offering both usability and collectability in equal
measure.
Displaying a pleasing, largely original
appearance, this BMW benefits from a comprehensive history file, including
numerous invoices and no fewer than 12 previous MOT certificates, showing
consistent care and maintenance over many years. The car is understood to have
undergone a significant restoration during the 1990s, supported by photographic
documentation. More recently, between 2011 and 2024, further restorative works
were undertaken, including attention to the wheel arches, sills, bonnet, spare
wheel well, rear body sections, and trim components, along with the installation
of a new fuel tank.
Mechanically, the car has
seen worthwhile recent investment, including a brake line overhaul, as well as
the installation of a new carburettor and fuel pump sourced from marque
specialists, in addition to a replacement water pump and radiator. The vehicle
rides on a set of 14-inch BBS cross-spoke alloy wheels (E30 fitment), which
complement its classic lines.
The paintwork and
body present with an attractive patina, enhancing the car’s period charm, and
the vehicle has reportedly been dry stored for the past five years. The engine
starts and runs; however, it is noted that a professional engine and carburettor
tune-up would likely further improve performance and drivability. Additionally,
the bonnet latch mechanism would benefit from minor adjustment, as reflected in
the panel alignment.
An increasingly sought-after
classic, the BMW 2002 — particularly with its distinctive “shark nose” front end
— remains one of the most accessible entry points into classic BMW ownership.
This example, with its documented history, restoration work, and honest
presentation, represents an appealing proposition for enthusiasts and collectors
alike. Having already attracted considerable attention since arriving on site,
this charismatic BMW is poised to generate strong interest at
auction.
