4,973cc petrol
V8; showing 90,228 miles; hard-to-find glass roof hardtop; An MOT is in place
until 23 July 2026; great history file
First
registered in April 1999, this Mercedes-Benz SL500 represents the final years of
the R129 era, a model now widely regarded as a modern classic. Finished in
metallic dark blue / black with a contrasting beige leather interior, it remains
an elegant and imposing roadster, blending understated luxury with unmistakable
V8 presence.
Power comes from the 4,973cc petrol
V8 paired with a five-speed automatic gearbox, delivering the smooth, effortless
performance for which the SL is renowned. The car drives, stops, and starts
exactly as it should, as demonstrated in recent photos and video, and has
clearly been maintained with regular use rather than stored
away.
The service history is particularly
reassuring, with the original service book showing 13 stamps alongside receipts
documenting work carried out over the years. The most recent service was
completed in July 2024 at 86,247 miles, with additional recent attention paid to
the differential and gearbox. The mileage currently showing on the speedometer
is 90,228 miles. An MOT is in place until 23 July 2026.
According to the V5C, the car has had nine former keepers, with the
current keeper recorded from December 2023. Adding to its appeal is the
increasingly hard-to-find glass roof hardtop, a desirable option that enhances
both the driving experience and the car’s long-term
collectability.
A well-presented and properly
sorted example of the SL500, offering classic Mercedes build quality, V8
refinement, and strong modern-classic credentials.
Photos and a video of the roof in operation to follow
shortly.
