Showing only 5,693 miles; sympathetically
refreshed; the most successful motor vehicle ever made!
Introduced in 1958, Honda’s little
step-through would go on to become the
most successful motor vehicle ever made with production numbers exceeding 100
million units, with the C50 variant arriving in the mid-1960s as part of the second major
evolution of the design. Light, frugal and famously unburstable, the C50 offered
easy, twist-and-go mobility to millions, earning a
reputation for reliability that helped cement Honda’s global rise. Today, good early
examples remain sought after for their simplicity and charm, as well as their
place in motoring history.
First registered in 1967, this charming Honda
C50 presents in red and shows a remarkably modest 5,693 miles, supported by the
V5C which records just three former keepers. The paperwork includes a number of
Honda books, manuals and invoices for recent repairs. A tidy and honest example
of Honda’s ever-popular step-through, it has clearly been the
subject of careful recent attention.
The rear mudguard has been properly repaired
with new metal sections welded in, rather than the usual filler, and the rear
section replaced. The frame has been sandblasted, primed and repainted, giving
the machine a clean and well-presented
backbone.
A
number of corroded components have been renewed with genuine Honda parts,
including the gear changer, rear foot brake lever and kick-start. The electrical system has
also benefited from a new wiring loom, lighting coil and battery, bringing
reliability up to modern expectations.
A straightforward, sympathetically refreshed
example of Honda’s iconic C50, ready for some tinkering or immediate
enjoyment.
