Coach-built
by Nilsson Karosserifabrik of Sweden; 139,908 miles; 12 months
MOT
This 2002 Volvo S80 Hearse is a rare and
fascinating example of Volvo’s Special Vehicles programme, coach built by the
highly respected Nilsson Karosserifabrik of Sweden. Nilsson worked closely with
Volvo to transform the S80 saloon into professional funeral vehicles, and this
five-door hearse is often referred to as the “Nilsson S80 Hearse,” a designation
well known among collectors and specialists.
Finished in silver, the car is based on the Volvo S80 platform and
retains a five-seat layout, combining practicality with the understated
Scandinavian design for which Volvo is renowned. Power comes from a 2922cc
petrol engine, and the vehicle has covered 139,908 miles. It has had five former
keepers and was driven on site, where it started, stopped, and ran correctly for
photographs and video recording.
First registered
on 21 January 2002, the hearse is supplied with a full 12-month MOT, expiring in
January 2026. These Nilsson-built hearses represent an important chapter in
Volvo’s coach-built history and are now increasingly sought after as distinctive
classics with genuine specialist provenance.
Unfortunately, the service history has been mislaid over the years
but has passed an MOT only a few days ago with only two small
advisories.
Please note that a matching Volvo S80
Limousine by the same coachbuilder is also offered in the auction as Lot 415,
presenting a unique opportunity to acquire a complementary
pair.
