A
classic icon with character and history; 12 old MOT certificates; an
affordable legendary Shark Nose BMW; car underwent a significant
restoration
This BMW 2002 is a true classic
from the late 1960s and 1970s, renowned for its nimble handling and spirited
performance. It helped establish BMW as a serious contender in the compact
sports car market, offering a dynamic driving experience wrapped in understated
styling — often described as a "sports car in a limousine’s
clothing."
Today, the 2002 is a highly desirable collector’s car, and
this example has been well cared for over the years. It comes with a substantial
history file, including numerous invoices and receipts documenting ongoing
maintenance, as well as 12 old MOT certificates.
At some stage in the 90s the car underwent a significant restoration,
with a selection of photos showing some of the work completed. More recently
from 2011-2024 further restoration work was carried out
including wheel
arches, sills, bonnet, spare wheel well, new fuel tank, trim replacement and
rear end body work. The bonnet latch and cable is in need of slight adjustment
on one side hence the misalignment in photos.
More
recently, the car has benefited from a brake line overhaul, a new carburettor
and fuel pump from Jaymic
BMW 2002 specialists along with a new water pump and
radiator.
The car retains a largely
original appearance and has been dry stored for the last 5 years and is enhanced
by a set of 14-inch E30 BBS cross-spoke alloy wheels that complement its classic
look. The paint and bodywork display a lovely patina, adding to its vintage
charm.
While the engine starts and runs, we believe it would benefit from
a professional engine and carburettor tune-up to bring out its full
potential.
Since arriving on-site, this little BMW has drawn a lot of
attention — and for good reason. As one of the most affordable and sought-after
models in the classic BMW lineup, especially with its iconic “shark nose” front
end, it’s a great opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors
alike.
