1934 Hotchkiss 615 Monaco Saloon
Quality
French saloon UK registered from new; older restoration; 2 1/2-litre Six; loads
of potential
You won’t see a Hotchkiss every day,
but we are delighted to offer two in one sale, both quality cars offering
refinement and performance.
Described by
‘Autocar’ as ‘outstandingly good’, they had a loyal following in the UK in
period and had many fans.
This 1934 615 Monaco
clearly shows Detroit influence in its factory supplied bodywork,
especially at the rear which looks very American in design.
Fitted with a lusty 2 ½-litre six, it was discovered by the vendor
in The British Hotchkiss Society Magazine in 2019 offered by its owner of 40
years.
The car was originally UK registered and
was first registered JN 4019 in March 1934 – it would have been an expensive car
at the time and has stood the test of time well.
It had been little used over the previous 25 years and had been
given a restoration some years previously. It was running and driving at the
time and was acquired to join a large collection and has consequently seen
little use since. It comes with a current V5C, old style V5, buff logbook and
copy French handbook.
The vendor advises that
he has recently spotted some frost damage to the engine, although this would be
easily rectified with the engine still in the car as it is accessible and
doesn’t affect its running at the present time.
The very attractive estimate reflects this, making this interesting
and attractive ‘30s saloon look most appealing.
