Description
1984 Mini Mayfair;
re-bored and modified to take the 1,275cc cylinder head; large SU carburettor
and pancake filter; Cooper badging all round
Originally a
standard black Mini Mayfair, this eye-catching example has been extensively
restored and upgraded to create a smart Cooper-inspired car with numerous
mechanical and cosmetic improvements.
Between 2013 and 2016, the
previous owner carried out a comprehensive restoration of the bodyshell. Work
included replacing the front wings, windscreen lower surround, doorposts,
A-panels and sills, repairing the floor panels, fitting new wheel arches, a new
boot floor and rear lower valance, before finishing the car with a high-quality
full respray.
The engine was also
extensively rebuilt and enhanced. It was rebored and upgraded to accept a
1,275cc cylinder head complete with twin valve springs, while further work
included new big-end bearings, a Sprint camshaft and followers, duplex timing
chain kit, oil pump, clutch, hoses, radiator, heater matrix, water pump and
starter motor. Breathing was improved with a larger SU carburettor, pancake air
filter and a three-branch big-bore exhaust manifold and
system.
The mechanical restoration
continued with a complete overhaul of the braking system, including new wheel
cylinders and brake shoes, while Koni shock absorbers, renewed suspension
components and upgraded driveshafts were also fitted.
Inside, the Mini
has been tastefully updated with an earlier-style dashboard, refreshed seats,
door cards and interior trim, together with a new tinted windscreen. The
finishing touches include smart Mamba alloy wheels with matching tyres and
Cooper-style wheel arch extensions and brightwork.
The current vendor
purchased the Mini through Brightwells in 2021 and has enjoyed the car over the
past four years, maintaining it throughout their ownership. It is now
reluctantly offered for sale to make way for future
projects.
