Introduced in 1962, the MGB
Roadster quickly established itself as one of Britain’s most iconic sports cars,
offering a winning combination of timeless styling, nimble handling and
dependable mechanicals. With its simple engineering, open-top driving experience
and excellent parts availability, the MGB has remained a firm favourite with
enthusiasts for generations and continues to be one of the most accessible and
enjoyable classic sports cars to own.
Originally
registered in 1974 and finished in what is believed to be ‘Tartan Red’, this MGB
presents as an honest and very usable example, having been retained by the
current vendor for the past four years.
The car
is accompanied by a selection of invoices and paperwork accumulated over the
years, including old MOT certificates and receipts for various parts and
maintenance items, including a replacement starter motor and brake
pads.
One invoice details a thorough check-over and full service costing
circa £350, while another records an engine and carburettor tune-up carried out
by a mobile engineer. Under the bonnet, the car also benefits from an alternator
conversion and spin-on oil filter conversion, both useful upgrades for improved
reliability and ease of maintenance.
The Tartan
Red paint presents in fair condition, with a number of small imperfections as
photographed in the areas commonly seen on an older MGB. However, these do
little to detract from the overall appearance of the car, which retains a
pleasing look thanks to its period ‘Rostyle’ wheels and smart black
interior.
Starting and driving around site for
photography and video as expected of an MGB, this honest little roadster
represents an excellent opportunity to enter the world of classic British sports
cars and enjoy open-top motoring for the remainder of the
summer.
