Just 7,478
miles covered since its comprehensive rebuild; alleged to be one of just two
cars constructed to a particularly high standard for display at the 1983 Motor
Show; recently driven over 100 miles on a road trip
This beautifully
presented Bugatti Type 35 tribute is an evocative recreation of one of the most
celebrated and successful Grand Prix racing cars ever built.
Finished in
elegant ivory beige with a brown interior, this striking example is described as
being one of just two cars constructed to a particularly high standard for
display at the 1983 Motor Show, with just 7,478 miles covered since its
comprehensive rebuild.
Based on a 1968 Volkswagen
Beetle floorpan, the car benefits from the renowned simplicity and reliability
of Volkswagen mechanicals. Power comes from a 1,500cc air-cooled flat-four
engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, while the engine is further
enhanced by a specially tuned stainless steel exhaust system.
The build
was completed using either new or factory-reconditioned components throughout,
with considerable expenditure devoted to achieving an authentic period
appearance. Details such as the period-style lamps, instrumentation, steering
wheel, tonneau cover and authentic Bugatti badging, including a correct-style
temperature gauge radiator cap, all contribute to the car's impressive visual
impact.
First registered in October 1968,
reflecting its Volkswagen donor vehicle, this Bugatti Type 35 tribute has
remained with its current owner since September 1999. During its time on site
for photography and filming, the car started readily, drove well and stopped
exactly as expected, presenting as a well-sorted and highly enjoyable
example.
As a historic vehicle, the car benefits
from both MOT and Vehicle Excise Duty exemption and is offered complete with its
cherished registration number.
Whether destined
for classic motoring events, local shows or simply to be admired in a private
collection, this Bugatti Type 35 tribute offers the unmistakable presence and
romance of one of motor racing's greatest icons, combined with the dependable
engineering, straightforward maintenance and usability of the Volkswagen
air-cooled platform.
It represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a
faithful recreation that is every bit as captivating to look at as it is to
drive.
