Originally a Rootes Group vehicle; well preserved commercial heritage;
very few owners; presentable running and driving
truck
Commercial vehicles with genuine working histories are
becoming increasingly sought after, and this charming 1959 Commer Superpoise Mk
V offers a fascinating glimpse into Britain's post-war transport
heritage.
Powered by its original four-cylinder engine, the
Commer is believed to have begun life with Rootes Group dealer Cosby Suppliers
of Leicestershire, where it was employed delivering parts and components
throughout the Midlands and Wales until around 1968.
It was subsequently
converted into a recovery vehicle, embarking on a second career that is well
documented in a hand written letter within the accompanying history file. Among
the stories preserved is an account of the truck recovering a single-deck coach
from the shores of Loch Lomond before transporting it all the way back to
Leicester—a remarkable journey that perfectly illustrates the dependable nature
of these hardy workhorses.
During the 1970s, the Commer
continued its working life with S. Rogers Motors before later serving as an
autojumblers' vehicle at Benhams of Rugby. Remaining with the Rogers family from
1973 until around 2011, it was sympathetically restored to the attractive
condition seen today and thereafter enjoyed a more leisurely existence attending
classic vehicle shows and holidays.
The current vendor
became its next custodian and has continued to preserve this delightful piece of
commercial vehicle history. Finished in bright red with a smart green canvas
rear cover, the Commer presents well and is reported to run and drive
nicely.
With a well-documented working life and sympathetic restoration, this
Superpoise is far more than simply a classic commercial vehicle—it is a tangible
reminder of Britain's transport heritage and is ready to be enjoyed by its next
enthusiastic custodian.
