This 1971 Land Rover Series late IIa returns to
Brightwells in fine health, having benefited from a subtle but well-judged recommissioning since it was
last sold. The vendor has invested considerable time, care and affection into
this handsome little 4x4, and it shows.
Recent work includes a new wiring loom,
carburettor, fuel pump, head gasket with new valves, and a braking system
overhaul — all sensible and valuable improvements on a classic Land Rover. The
vendor assures us that the chassis is in good order, avoiding the dreaded
corrosion that so often affects these vehicles. A late IIa petrol example, it is
also fitted with an overdrive, making it more usable on modern
roads.
This is a
very late Series IIa, identifiable by its H-suffix VIN, indicating that it had
received more than seven major updates from the original design — a detail well-known among enthusiasts of Series
Land Rovers.
Fitted with a Fairey-type overdrive and free-wheeling hubs, it is clear that a
previous owner also cherished the vehicle and sought to make it as comfortable
as possible for longer journeys. A hardtop is included with the vehicle, though
it will need to be collected from the vendor’s local address after the
sale.
The Land
Rover was driven to the sale and has been promptly starting and driving without
issue for the photographs and video while on site, suggesting a well-sorted and usable
example.
