Probably the nicest
example on the market today; showing just 30,738 miles; Painted in Opal Orange;
running and driving as you would expect
This delightful and
exceptionally well-presented 1964 Messerschmitt KR200 Roadster is a true icon of
post-war ingenuity and one of the most recognisable microcars ever produced.
First registered in April 1964, this charming example has had just two former
keepers and has been in the current ownership since May 2024. Showing 30,738
miles on the odometer, it is accompanied by a fascinating history file including
an original old-style log book, green continuation log book, photographs and
invoices documenting its life and restoration.
Presented today in
a striking orange finish, this KR200 was previously cream before undergoing a
colour change in August 2025. The vibrant exterior is beautifully complemented
by a black leatherette interior and contrasting black canopy, creating a
visually arresting and period-inspired appearance. The bodywork is described as
being in excellent order, enhanced by brightwork, correct badging and attention
to authentic detailing throughout. Both interior and exterior panels have been
treated with UPOL Raptor coating, while the exterior benefits from a
high-quality two-pack paint finish.
This particular example has
been the subject of a comprehensive restoration to an exemplary standard. The
vendor advises that the car presents so well it could just as easily be
displayed in a home, office or private collection as enjoyed on the road. The
distinctive tandem cockpit remains true to its original design, complete with
aircraft-style bubble canopy, period instrumentation, correct switchgear and the
charming push-to-reverse ignition function that defines the
model.
Mechanically, the rear-mounted
192cc Sachs engine and associated components appear clean and well-maintained,
consistent with the quality of the restoration. Significant recent work includes
the fitment of new suspension rubbers front and rear, new brake shoes and
cables, rear hub seals and bearings, dynastart brushes, clutch plates, steering
bushes and engine mounts. The car also benefits from new tyres and inner tubes,
a de-coked cylinder head, fresh oil service and confirmation that the piston and
cylinder are in good condition. Inside, the interior has been fully renewed,
including new trim and rubber mats, while sound-deadening material has been
fitted to the floor for improved refinement.
The Messerschmitt
KR200 Roadster remains a highly desirable and collectible example of innovative
microcar design, famed for its aviation-inspired styling and unmistakable
silhouette. Always a crowd favourite, it is guaranteed to draw attention
wherever it appears. With M.O.T. exemption status and reported to be running and
driving as expected on site, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully
restored and characterful example, equally suited to display or enjoyment on the
open road.
