One of Only 25 Built; showing only 5,577 Miles;
998cc; 4-Speed Manual; fabulous story with a
huge history file
Built to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver
Jubilee, this charming little Mini is one of just 25 examples produced in the
distinctive Jubilee Silver over blue colour scheme created especially for the
occasion. Finished in its original livery and showing only 5,577 miles in over
48 years, it is a remarkably well-preserved survivor of a very limited
commemorative run — a rare opportunity
indeed.
Its
story is every bit as appealing as the car itself. In 1977, St Cuthbert’s
Co-op and Colgate toothpaste ran a
competition in Edinburgh, with this Mini as the star prize. The winner, local
schoolteacher Margaret Irvine, was duly informed of her good fortune by telegram
— a copy of which still accompanies
the car today. There was, however, one small complication: Margaret did not yet
hold a driving licence. As a result, the Mini was carefully tucked away in the
garage of her home in Buckstone, Edinburgh, where it remained unused for the
next three years.
Only after finally passing her test did
Margaret begin to enjoy her prize, and even then, only sparingly. By the time
the car was eventually sold in 2008, it had covered a mere 2,500 miles.
Remaining within the same family for many years, it continued to be cherished
and exercised only occasionally, averaging around 200 miles per year. Later
moving to Suffolk, it passed through the hands of a couple of enthusiastic
collectors before appearing at auction in April 2025.
Powered by the familiar 998cc engine
and 4-speed manual gearbox, it remains
every inch the lively, characterful little British icon that helped define a
generation. The car is offered with a substantial history file, including MOT
certificates, service records, and the original congratulatory telegram
— a delightful reminder of its unique
origins.
A
wonderfully preserved, exceptionally low-mileage example of a very rare
commemorative Mini with a beautiful and unique specification and interior, One
of only 25 produced. Complete with the cars original Dunlop tyres. A special car
with a story to match.
