Over the
past three years, more than £2,800 has been invested in maintenance and
improvements; The current owner acquired the car three years ago from a fellow
Riley Club member; 30 years in dry storage
This 1948 Riley RMA was first registered in February of that year and
benefits from a well-documented history of careful ownership. The current owner
acquired the car three years ago from a fellow Riley Club member and former
international rally car engineer. During this time it has been regularly enjoyed
at shows, used for weddings, and driven on relaxed spring and summer outings,
proving to be a reliable and enjoyable classic. The owner also notes that it has
never been driven on wet or salted roads.
Prior
to the current ownership, the car spent around 30 years in dry storage and was
restored during that period, although the precise date of the restoration is not
recorded. In total, the car has had five previous owners.
Over the past three years, more than £2,800 has been invested in
maintenance and improvements. Work carried out includes rewiring to the rear of
the car, fitting a new fuel tank and water pump, installing a new exhaust centre
section, new spark plugs and leads, a reconditioned distributor, and restoration
of the dashboard and door caps. The leather seats have been sympathetically
restored, retaining much of their original patina.
For aesthetic reasons, the chrome bumpers, overriders and original
spotlights have been removed. All of the original chrome components are included
with the car and can be refitted at the new owner’s discretion. A Smiths heater,
previously unused, is also supplied with the vehicle.
This Riley combines charming period character with careful
maintenance and sympathetic restoration, making it an appealing opportunity for
collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The car does
show some age-related marks, and there is a small paint repair to the boot lid
as shown in the photographs. Overall, however, it presents very well and would
not look out of place at any classic car event.
