True
icon of British motoring; canvas tilt; and built to go anywhere; showing only
58,072 miles
The Land Rover Series IIA is widely regarded as the
definitive classic Land Rover: rugged, unpretentious and engineered to go
anywhere. By 1970, the model had reached its mature form, combining the
agricultural charm of the early Series trucks with the incremental improvements
that made them dependable workhorses the world over. It was also the final full
year of IIA production before the arrival of the Series III in 1971, giving
these late examples particular appeal among
enthusiasts.
First registered in September
1970, this 88-inch diesel example
shows as having had only one former keeper, the current owner retaining it for
the last 30 years. The odometer displays a remarkably modest 58,072 miles,
entirely in keeping with its honest, well-preserved
presentation.
Powered by the familiar
4-cylinder diesel
engine, it wears its canvas tilt to great effect, giving it the classic profile
so closely associated with the Series trucks. Recent wheels and tyres have been
fitted, and it has been starting and driving on site for photography and video,
suggesting a vehicle that remains very much in regular
use.
Indeed, it has been used daily
and is fitted with an immobiliser, adding a touch of modern practicality without
detracting from its period charm. A straightforward, characterful Series IIA
with low mileage, long-term ownership and the desirable soft-top
configuration.
