Defender 110
County Station Wagon; 300Tdi; rare factory black; extensive history &
upgrades; MOTd until May 2026; huge maintenance file accompanies the
car
Lovingly known as “Louis”, this 1998 Land Rover Defender 110
County Station Wagon represents one of the very last 300Tdi-powered Defenders
and is finished in very rare factory black. A genuine County Station Wagon
example, it is offered with exceptional provenance, extensive history, and a
vast array of upgrades carried out over many years.
Powered by the
legendary 2.5-litre 300Tdi diesel engine and paired with a manual gearbox, this
Defender has covered 259,613 miles, which stands as a testament to both its
durability and the meticulous care it has received. It has had eight former
keepers, with the current keeper recorded from November 2024.
First
registered in the UK in September 1998, the vehicle remains correctly
registered, road legal, and benefits from an MOT valid until May 2026. It was
driven to site, starting readily and driving well over ten miles without
issue.
The vehicle is accompanied by two large history files containing
stacks of invoices and documentation covering tens of thousands of pounds worth
of maintenance, repairs, and upgrades throughout its life. This extensive
paperwork clearly demonstrates long-term enthusiastic ownership rather than
neglect. Most notably, the Defender has just benefited from the fitment of a
replacement half chassis, representing a major and highly desirable piece of
work for any Defender of this age.
Mechanically, the vehicle has seen
significant investment, including a Truckfix upgraded clutch, a rebuilt transfer
box and a full stainless steel exhaust system. Further enhancements include
numerous alloy engine bay upgrades, upgraded suspension with a lift kit, uprated
trailing arms, sump guards, and other underbody improvements designed to enhance
both durability and off-road capability.
Inside, the Defender is
exceptionally well specified and far removed from standard. It features leather
seating throughout, including leather rear bench seating with a folding table,
an alcantara headlining, stainless steel dashboard trim, LED interior lighting
and a rear door-mounted stove table.
Externally, it is fitted with a
front bull bar and a G4-style roof rack, completing a highly distinctive and
purposeful appearance. The vendor advises that many thousands of pounds have
been spent upgrading and improving the vehicle to create a comfortable, capable,
and unique example.
Cosmetically, the Defender presents as a solid,
usable, and honest example. While it does not drive like a vehicle of this
mileage and has been kept immaculately during ownership, it has spent a period
off the road and would now benefit from some light recommissioning and cosmetic
tidying. The tow bar electrics have broken at the connection point, both mid-row
door mechanisms have seized and require replacement, the front headlights and
roof lights require attention, and the side steps need replacing. The body and
panels appear solid, though the vehicle would benefit from a fresh repaint to
return it to its former glory.
With a modest investment of time and
effort, this Defender would once again be a truly stunning example. It
represents a rare opportunity to acquire a late 300Tdi Defender 110 County
Station Wagon in rare factory black, boasting huge history, major recent
structural investment, and exceptional upgrades throughout. A highly usable and
characterful Defender with enormous potential, whether enjoyed as-is or further
restored and enhanced.
We noticed on startup, the Defender seems to take
a little bit of time and smokes quite a lot, the vendor has advised us that it
soon clears and he thinks its down to been stood for a time and old
fuel.
