Rare three door model; with the current
owner for 40 years; wonderfully original survivor
example
Introduced in 1956 and produced until 1970, the
Volvo Amazon range cemented the Swedish marque’s reputation for durability,
safety, and understated style. By 1968, the two-door 133 saloon had become a
particularly desirable variant, combining the robust B18/B20 four-cylinder
engines with clean Scandinavian lines and Volvo’s pioneering safety features,
including standard seat belts. Rarer than its four-door siblings, the two-door
Amazon is now especially prized among collectors.
This particular example is especially
appealing. With few owners in its lifetime, the last having cherished it since
2004, and now bwing offered for sale for the first time in over 40
years. The previous change of hands was a private sale between acquaintances,
which explains the remarkable continuity of ownership.
Finished in a deep red with
contrasting black interior, the car presents in lovely original condition
throughout. The engine bay is notably tidy, reflecting careful maintenance over
the years, even if the supporting history file has unfortunately been mislaid.
The car runs and drives, though given its long-term storage, a sensible
recommissioning service is advised before regular use.
The paperwork includes the V5C, a
previous MOT certificate that expired in June 2023 and an invoice for a head
gasket replacement in November 2022. The car has been starting and driving
onsite for the videos and photographs, the ignition barrel requires assembly,
but the new parts are included.
Volvo Amazons are rightly celebrated for their
rugged engineering and timeless design, and this rare two-door saloon could well
be one of the best survivors left once recommissioned and tidied up. Its
originality and long-term ownership add considerably to its appeal, making it a
rare opportunity for the discerning collector.
