Only two previous keepers; 4.2-litre XK
straight-six engine; requires re-commissioning
Launched in 1966, the Daimler 420
was essentially a more luxurious version of Jaguar’s 420, fitted with the same
4.2-litre XK straight-six engine but distinguished by Daimler’s fluted grille
and more refined trim. With 245bhp on tap, it was capable of 120mph and offered
effortless performance combined with the sort of understated elegance that
defined Daimler’s clientele. Only around 5,000 were built before production
ended in 1968, making them a relatively rare sight today.
This particular example has been in
long-term storage for many years and, while it does run, a full recommissioning
service is recommended for serious road use. The interior is in beautiful
original condition, a testament to the car’s careful preservation, with its deep
darker blue upholstery providing a striking contrast to the light blue bodywork,
the paintwork would benefit from improvement to bring it back to its former
glory.
Showing
only 50,169 miles, the car’s paperwork includes the current V5C recording just
two previous keepers, further underlining its rarity and
originality.
The
Daimler 420 remains a refined and capable saloon, combining Jaguar’s engineering
prowess with Daimler’s traditional craftsmanship. With originality, low mileage,
and a wonderfully preserved cabin, this car offers an excellent basis for
sympathetic restoration. Once recommissioned and tidied, it could prove to be
one of the more rewarding survivors of the model.
Has been starting and driving on site for the
videos and photographs, please note its running on a temporary fuel supply
inside the boot that can be seen in the images.
Super rare British luxury saloon, try finding
another!
