Rare Mulsanne S, one of only 970 made; 139k miles with 24
services to date; MOT valid until August 2026
Launched
in 1980, the Mulsanne was effectively a Bentley version of the new Rolls-Royce
Silver Spirit and was virtually identical apart from a different radiator
treatment and a more sporting interior.
In 1982 a
Turbo version joined the range with 50% more power, sports suspension, sports
seats, a revised centre console and alloy wheels. This was followed in 1987 by
the Mulsanne S, which shared all the sporting features of the Turbo model and,
from 1989, gained quad round headlamps instead of twin rectangular ones but
retained a normally aspirated version of the familiar 6,750cc V8 engine, now
fitted with Bosch Jetronic fuel injection.
With
height adjustable suspension and massive brake discs all round, it was plenty
quick enough for most owners, gliding to 60mph in 10 seconds with a top speed of
129mph. Just 907 Mulsanne S models were produced (including 61 in stretched LWB
form) before it was replaced by the very similar Brooklands in
1992.
First registered in May 1990, this Mulsanne
S presents as a distinguished example of Bentley’s classic luxury saloon,
finished in an elegant metallic green complemented by a beige leather interior.
Powered by the renowned 6750cc petrol V8 engine and paired with an
automatic transmission, it retains the refined and effortless driving character
expected from the marque.
Showing just over 139k miles, the Bentley comes with an MOT valid until August 2026
and is accompanied by an excellent history file.
This includes a service book with 18 stamps up to 2014 at 129,044 miles.
Further invoices confirm additional servicing in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022
and 2023, equating to an average service interval of just 5,800 miles. The
original handbook is also included along with 16 old MOTs.
The V5C records 11 former keepers, the current owning it since
December 2023.
During its time on site for photography and video capture, the car
was reported to start, run and drive.
As expected for a vehicle of its age and mileage, there are some
age-related marks around the bodywork, though overall the car presents well and
remains impressive for its vintage.
