Stunning example; only 31,300 miles showing and three recorded keepers
including our vendor
First registered in June 1970,
this is one of the last Mk II’s supplied with the Cooper S spec 71HP engine. The
original sales invoice on file shows it was initially purchased in August of
that year from Yapp’s Garage in Cardiff for £930.
The purchaser remained the
registered keeper until 1996, presumably covering very few miles over his 26
year ownership. A valuation certificate acquired by the second owner that year
recorded the car showing only 19,494 miles.
Deemed a perfect
car for a European adventure, it was taken on the 1996 Chrysler/Euroclassic,
travelling from Dover to the Nurburgring Circuit. Shortly after that in 2001,
the owners also drove from the UK to Imola and back again. By this time, the
speedo showed about 29,000 miles and was regularly put through an MOT until
2007, when it showed almost 31,000 miles.
At some point during this
period, it was treated to a complete respray and renewal of the interior. Apart
from a little cracking to the dash and a few age related marks, it looks very
impressive inside, underneath and under the bonnet.
Put into dry
storage for some time, it was not until 2023 that it was sold on to our vendor –
a keen classic car and bike collector. The brakes, tyres and battery were
replaced, but having enjoyed it for short trips for a couple of years (only
covered about 300 miles since), the collection needs to be reduced so this seems
to be a great opportunity for someone.
Only two long term owners
before our vendor, showing very few miles and in the condition that reflects
that, this looks like great value at the estimate published
here.
