Description
Only
2,500 miles since full engine rebuild; overdrive; Surrey top and soft top;
chrome bumper conversion.
First
registered in March 1978, this MGB Roadster's previous owner had the car for 8
years then sold it through ourselves 12 months ago to the current vendor.
He added it to his collection but hardly drove it and now has decided
to move the car on to make room for his next project. A vast history file
extending back to the mid-1980s shows regular upkeep and comes with the
car.
It
seems from the invoices that the car was substantially restored in 2008/09 with
many new parts fitted and a full respray in the original Ermine White which
alone cost £2,075. The interior was also fully retrimmed with new seat foams and
black leather seat covers, new leather door cards and leather dashboard cover,
new carpets and a new Mountney steering wheel.
During
the previous owners 8-year ownership it has been serviced annually and
well-maintained including a full engine rebuild in July 2021 with new pistons,
bearings, oil pump, timing chain, reground crank etc. This cost £1,542 and it
has only covered 2,300 miles since.
A
reconditioned exchange rear axle was also fitted at around the same time along
with a chrome bumper conversion; new clutch kit; electronic ignition; additional
cooling fans; new front wheel bearings; new fuel pump; new quarterlight rubbers;
new steering rack gaiter; new set of tyres
etc.
Also fitted is a GRP Surrey-type hard top supplied by
Honeybourne Mouldings of Bidford-on-Avon in 2018 at a cost of £650. This has an
easily removable centre section and a separate rear window section which is
fixed to the car by a few bolts. This can all be removed fairly easily and the
original hood and hood frame are also present and said to be in serviceable
condition although the vendor has never used them, preferring the look of the
Surrey top. A rain cap is also stored in the boot which can be strapped across
the top of the car if it is parked with the centre roof section
off.
The vendor states that the car runs and drives well with the overdrive
working as it should. As you can see in the photos, it looks generally
presentable with a few paintwork blemishes here and there and a slight kink in
the top left side of the boot lid where it was jammed down on a
suitcase.
