Description
Reliant Scimitar SS1 with the desirable 1800Ti engine;
surprisingly quick car for its era; one of only 1507 produced in the short
production time.
The SS1 is a compact, two-seater roadster designed to appeal to
enthusiasts seeking a more agile and sporty driving experience. Introduced in
1984, it was powered by various Ford CVH inline-four engines, with the 1.6L
version delivering 95 bhp. In 1986, the SS1 received a performance boost with
the introduction of the 1.8L turbocharged Nissan CA18ET engine, known as the
1800Ti. This engine produced 135 bhp, enabling the SS1 to accelerate from 0–60
mph in 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 126 mph.?
With this car the light weight and turbo torque, the 1800Ti is
surprisingly quick for its era. It feels nimble and responsive, and while the
interior is basic it delivers a raw and engaging drive, giving a glorious turbo
lag boost style of performance.
This car, we are
told by the owner is one of only 300 that benefited from the more powerful 1.8Ti
Nissan and one of only 1507 SS1’s made in the production run between 1984 and
1995, making it quickly becoming a sought-after collector’s car. Although this
car has a few niggles with the headlamps and electric windows and paintwork, it
was driven to us from Cardiff still putting a smile on the current owner’s face
on his arrival.
The car comes with the rare
hardtop option (which in our opinion would look better in body colour or black),
the soft top and frame also comes with the car giving you a choice dependant to
your driving needs, also a large amount of receipts show some of the work
carried out over the years and Mot’s dating back to 1989 gives a little
bit more history for this rare car.
