Description
Just two
owners from new, the first for 46 years; a genuine 43,773 miles on the odometer;
manual gearbox; engine turns freely; interesting Z-car in need of
restoration
First registered
in August 1979, this rare 280ZX manual was purchased new by a local hero from
Kidderminster, a Mr Murdoch, who popped into his local Datsun dealership with a
carrier bag of cash and purchased two brand new Datsuns, a 100A and this
280ZX.
Story has it that Mr Murdoch used to own
every property on Lion Street in Kidderminster, a bustling road full of small
businesses. As a wealthy individual it is no surprise that Mr Murdoch owned lots
of vehicles, but that did not stop him from racking up some 43,773 miles in his
280ZX as he shuttled around his properties in the Midlands.
In 1991, when the Datsun was still only 12 years old, it was parked
up in a barn amongst his collection of other cars where it was to remain for the
next 34 years. When Mr Murdcoch recently passed away, his family contacted our
vendor, the owner of a local garage, to see if he would like to purchase any of
the cars left behind.
Our vendor leapt at the
opportunity to take on the challenge of restoring one of his favourite cars, and
so this Datsun was finally dragged out into the daylight. He started by freeing
off the brakes and fitting a charged-up battery and, much to his delight, the
radio started playing, the electric windows all worked and the engine turned
over freely.
However, while waiting for the
logbook to arrive in his name, our vendor came to realise that he just does not
have the time to give this Z-car the attention that it deserves, hence its
appearance in this sale.
On offer here at no
reserve, this rare manual 280ZX, with low miles and effectively one-owner, now
needs an enthusiastic new keeper who can get it back on the road where it
belongs.
