Original RHD car; few owners; bodywork fully restored in 2011 and
has been on display in a showroom ever since
First
registered in Gloucestershire in August 1972, this relatively rare RHD Fiat 500
comes with old registration documents which show that it had just three lady
owners in Plymouth from 1978 to 2008 before being acquired by a gentleman in
Bristol. In 2011 he part-exchanged it for a new car at his local Fiat dealership
who then restored the 500 and kept it on display as a showroom exhibit
thereafter.
Invoices show that the bodywork was
completely restored with many new panels including bonnet; doors; sills; front
and rear wings. New bumpers, headlamp rims, door handles and aluminium door
window frames were also fitted and the car was serviced with new plugs, points,
coil, condenser etc.
A good file of invoices
back to 1994 show that the car was kept well-maintained prior to the
restoration, 16 old MOTs showing that it covered some 15,600 miles between 1995
and 2011, the odometer currently showing 85,056 miles.
The last MOT expired in November 2017 and the car has been on
static display since. Classed as a Historic Vehicle on the V5C, it is now
MOT-exempt and free to tax.
Starting promptly
and running nicely as we have moved it around on site, this freshly
restored Fiat will doubtless benefit from a precautionary check-over before
returning to the road once more – we did note a knocking noise in first gear
which sounds like a loose engine/gearbox mounting but you will have to make your
own minds up on that score. Other than that it looks great, runs well and
is on offer here at a modest guide price considering all the work that has gone
into it.
