Description
Now rare Mk I Transit in running and driving condition; ex-camper
converted back into a van; Kent-powered; driven 60 miles to the
sale
Early Transits were workers from the outset and so their
survival rate is low to negligible. This one was converted into a camper,
but recent owners have taken it back to its original van spec and at some
point, replaced the old V4 with a 1,600cc Kent engine.
Another
reason for the Transit's poor survival rate was the unruly V4, which had
reliability issues from the outset and so this engine change can be seen as
a good thing.
The engine has seen some recent work, including a
service, new water pump and alternator, a recent battery and rear exhaust
section have also been added along with a new rear valence, headlamps and bezels
and four new tyres - it was also driven some 60 miles to the
sale.
Included in the file are some bills and invoices for the parts
used.
Ready to use and improve, the paintwork is not as sharp as it
might be and there are some other cosmetic jobs to sort, but it is a sound
enough starting point to be well worthwhile and would have plenty of potential
as a work van, for use in period film and TV or as a 'van about
town'....
