Description
1978 MGB Roadster
Only 33,000 miles since
rebuild in the 1990s
Originally supplied by
Cleveland Garage on Jersey to Miss Barbara Gardner of Surrey in September
1980.
After six more registered keepers, it
became the pride and joy of Bob Astbury, who started and completed an extensive
restoration. There are many invoices on file listing parts purchased etc and we
think it probably looks just as impressive today as it did back in c.1990, when
the work was done.
Our vendor believes that it
may have had a heritage shell, although there is no invoice for this and looking
at it more closely, it is more likely to be the original shell but with replaced
wings, bonnet, doors and hood, (all accounted for).
During the same time as above, the current 1,867cc MGB engine was
fitted with converted cylinder head and hot Piper 270 camshaft along with four
fresh new wheels. The Heritage Certificate confirms it was originally red,
so we have to assume it was changed to the current white at this time
too.
Speedo was changed or reset during this
time so the 33,900 miles showing is since the rebuild.
Since then, it has been driving in Spain for some two years, before
returning to the UK and appearing to have been used on a regular basis for club
events and rallies.
We understand it has most
recently had an oil service in 2020, when it also passed its last
MOT.
Driven just over 100 miles to the
sale.
